There is music and then there is music. Monk’s music was revolutionary in the most profound sense of the word. Many of these great blues and jazz musicians, may not have been directly involved in leftist political and social change but their lives, who they were, their music was as much a revolutionary statement and expression as Emma Goldman, Howard Zinn, Malcolm X, Ho Chi Minh and other recognized great human beings.
