On January 14, 2026, Day 81 of the Walk for Peace marks a quiet but powerful turning point as the venerable Buddhist monks cross from South Carolina into North Carolina. Leaving Rock Hill behind, the journey moves through Fort Mill and continues toward Charlotte, carrying forward a message that has already traveled thousands of miles and touched countless hearts.
This pilgrimage began on October 26, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, as a 2,300 mile, 120 day walk grounded in mindfulness, compassion, and nonviolence. The monks walk without slogans or demands, allowing their presence to speak for itself. Each step is a practice. Each mile becomes a reminder that peace is not something declared, but something lived patiently and consistently.
The midday pause at Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill offers a moment of stillness within a long day of walking. Surrounded by nature, the journey slows just enough to breathe. As evening approaches, the monks arrive in Charlotte and find rest at the Marion Diehl Recreation Center, once again opening space for connection, reflection, and quiet encounters that often linger long after the walk continues.
Along the road, the response remains deeply human. People step forward not out of obligation, but out of recognition. Some walk alongside for a few moments. Others offer food, water, or a simple bow. Many follow the journey from afar, tracking each crossing and carrying the intention of peace into their own daily lives. In these exchanges, the distance between strangers disappears.
As the Walk for Peace enters North Carolina, it carries with it the collective intentions of everyone who has encountered it so far. The journey continues not only across states, but through hearts. It stands as living proof that even in uncertain times, peace can still move forward quietly, steadily, and together.
May all beings be well, happy, and at peace. 🙏
