Moments before his arrest by Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., active-duty Air Force Major Jason Watson delivered a historic address to a group of reporters and activists convened in front of Congress, becoming the nation’s first active-duty service member to call for the immediate impeachment and removal of Commander-in-Chief President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Watson called directly on members of Congress to honor their oaths of office and stand with Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) by introducing and/or backing articles of impeachment in the House of Representatives. “The constitutional impeachment process is the best pathway to restore fidelity to our Constitution,” Watson said. “That’s why I’m here standing in solidarity with Representative [Al] Green. … If Congress followed his example, we could remove the entire Trump Administration. But Congress remains unconvinced of the urgency and the necessity to honor their oaths.” Grounds for Trump’s and Vance’s impeachment and removal outlined by Watson include violation of constitutional war powers, usurpation of congressional authority, brazen lawfare against perceived adversaries in the media or legal arenas, efforts to overturn legal birthright citizenship, and the violent weaponization of the Department of Homeland Security against legal American residents. Watson lays out the staggering abuses of power committed by President Trump and his senior officials in the Executive Branch of the federal government. Convening in front of the U.S. Capitol in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, a coalition of pro-democracy advocates – including Major Watson, U.S. Rep. Al Green, and Removal Coalition founder Jessica Denson–addressed national media about the urgency of impeaching and removing Donald Trump from office for high crimes against the state.
